Mirabelle's past is shrouded in secrecy, from her parents' tragic deaths to her guardians' half-truths about why she can't return to her birthplace, Beau Rivage. Desperate to see the town, Mira runs away a week before her sixteenth birthday—and discovers a world she never could have imagined.

In Beau Rivage, nothing is what it seems—the strangely pale girl with a morbid interest in apples, the obnoxious playboy who's a beast to everyone he meets, and the chivalrous guy who has a thing for damsels in distress. Here, fairy tales come to life, curses are awakened, and ancient stories are played out again and again.

But fairy tales aren't pretty things, and they don't always end in happily ever after. Mira has a role to play, a fairy tale destiny to embrace or resist. As she struggles to take control of her fate, Mira is drawn into the lives of two brothers with fairy tale curses of their own . . . brothers who share a dark secret. And she'll find that love, just like fairy tales, can have sharp edges and hidden thorns.

Review:
I decided to read because I was in the mood for a fairy tale book. I've been wanting to read this but never had the time too. The cover is so simple but yet elegant. Truthfully I didn't read the blurb before starting the book. So I was a little surprise at how dark the book is. It's a creepy book, that makes you want to turn the pages.

Mira's sixteen birthday is coming up. She's been living with her godmother since she was born because her parents died when she was little. They died during a fire, trying to reuse everyone out of the ball. Her godmothers would never let her do anything. Rules: you can't have a boyfriend, you can't stay out late, you can't drive until your eighteen, and of course the list goes on and on. But the one thing she was curious about was why did her godmothers never let her visit her birthplace. So before her sixteen birthday, she decided to visit her birthplace without her godmothers finding out. She left at night and her friends took her there. When she arrived, she was just walking around, nothing to do. So she stopped at the Casino. There was a guy name Blue, for some reason Blue is trying to kick out Mira. I felt like punching him because he was so rude! Since Mira got kicked out by Blue. She was sleeping on the ground. When she was almost falling asleep, some guy was asking her questions. Why are you here? Did you run away from home? What's wrong? He decided to loan her a room for the night. I don't want to give to much of the first chapter so I'll stop here :)

Well Mira character is obedience. She would always listen to her godmothers. But she decided to break one rule which is to go visit her birthplace. After arrive there, I think she regret going. But that was only for the first few days. I like Mira's character but I wasn't too fond of her. She fell in love with a guy when she only knew him for two days, maybe even one day! I can't believe she would sleep with him after one day of knowing him. I bet she's the luckiest girl in the world because three guys like her at the same time haha. I wonder how that happen.

Blue is the most rudest and annoying person I ever read! I can't stand with him at first but I just want to slap him. Its new seeing a guy being rude, since in most books usually girls are the one being rude. It's a change that I have to get use to. I started liking his character after half the book, because I think it was cute when he told us the reason why he was being rude to her. I totally understand him. He has a really tough life.

Felisa is hella creepy. I swear, I don't understand why girls fall for him. The way he talks is calming and gently. It's just so not comfortable reading him talk. At first I thought he was really sweet because he offer Mira a room for the night but after that his character went down hill. At the end, finding out about this room was so creepy! I was freaking out when I was reading. I usually don't like horror scenes or books. I especially don't like reading about them, but Im pretty sure it would be nicer to picture it in your head rather than watching the scene on T.V. He's creepy I tell you!

Freddie is really nice. He acts like a prince. I like him. He's so nice to Mira. I hate when he gets feeling hurt from Mira. He's the type of guy who would do anything for a girl. I wish he was a real life person haha. But his feels get hurt easily, kinda like a girl but that's because he never gets his feeling hurt. Mira was breaking his heart every time they were alone.

Mira and Blue argues every chapter. I feel like they have a sister and brother relationship since they argues a lot. I blame both characters. They just need to rethink about what they are saying. It's always the wrong thing coming out their month. In the last few chapters, they start developing feels and you can just tell. I love it. I think they will be a loving couple. I adore Mira for what she did for Blue. It was beautiful. If I was her, I would also do the same thing.

Truthfully I don't know what to say about Felisa and Mira's relationship. It was the instant love relationship again. I hate it! I hate when Mira would always come crawling back to Felisa. I always ask the same question in my head "Why?". She had two other guys to pick, but why Felisa?

I love all the other characters. They pretty much are the weirdest people on earth but they complete the world that Sarah was building. I really love the world that she made. It was really dark. I was kinda expecting a happy ending with a prince which did happen but still very dark. I wish I read the blurb, I think I would love the book more if I did. Theres two kinds of fairies in this book. Bad ones and good ones. The bad ones curse babies when they're just little. They curse them with a fairy tale, like Cinderella, Beauty and the beast, Sleeping Beauty, and others! Except in this story, it's not those fairy tales ending you get in Disney movies. These fairy tales are the old stories, the one with bad endings. Cinderella story is that the stepsisters have to cut their toe off and wear the shoe but the birds tell prince that she's bleeding. Nothing good happens, even if you try to ignore the curse, fate will always pull you back in.

Overall, I think the characters complete the story very well. I did hate the story in the beginning but I was so curious about why her godmothers didn't let her visit her birthplace. I love taking the journey with Mira. Every time you finish the chapter, you would always want to find out more and more. It's defiantly a page turning book. I love the mystery and the plot of the book. Its a great book. If you like fairy tales and love horror books, this is the book for you! There's only a little bit of horror but yeah.

  1. This book sounds interesting :)
Although some of the characters do sound a bit creepy/weird and the instant love relationship between Mira and Felisa does sound annoying...*shrugs*

If you're still in the mood for a fairytale-ish book, you should check out A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan - it's sooo good! I just put up a review of it on my blog :)
